We've had an epic early summer on the Lower St. Mary and the dam's been opened again for the autumn draw-down of the reservoir, which looked quite full yesterday.
Sunny weather for the next while and mid-20's. Good flows and we should be out surfin' probably Monday and/or Tues. mid-day.

Lower St. Mary - 50 m3/s, sunny, 28C and just breezy – most excellent for October (or pretty-much anytime). We put-on just as Janson’s morning keeners were takin’ off.
Following the spring flood, the river’s changed quite a bit. Unfortunately, a lot of the smaller, smooth waves are gone as the overall channel seems broader and flatter – it’s like a really big bulldozer leveled things out. Over time, the river should rebuild the inset channel and new features will develop (and re-develop – like Birch that was flatter after June and is forming again).
Probably the biggest changes were at Run-no-Run. A pair of large boulders is now in the main flume down the left side, chokin’ things a bit. A line has also opened up on the right side. Lots of variations and we all took different lines. Di had the most exciting line I’ve seen this year – she pretty-much dropped into the biggest holes, prompting a couple of big braces and a roll – quite impressive.
Might be nearing the end of the paddling season but flows are still great and weather’s holding nicely.
