Just wondering what people think about having a season kick off party? I just ordered a new kayaking DVD,
source, and thought this on a projector plus a BBQ and flatwater paddle may may a nice evening out. I was thinking about some time in the latter part of April. Just wondering what people think? Which is a better location, Lethbridge, Waterton or Cardston?

I think the idea is stellar. Nothing like getting stoked for the season than to watch insane whitewater footage/carnage with fellow paddlers. It would also be a great opportunity to make some kayaking plans for the next couple of months. Cardston would be a good place for me but probably not for the majority of the members. I could do either Lethbridge or Waterton... I have a barbeque I would be willing to bring along as well. We could always plan for an Upper St paddle and come back to my place for food (or get permission to use Kimball Park).
Yah, I think that a barbeque would be great! If you want to push forward with the whole event we need to get it all set up to include advertising at Both kayak stores in town! Lethbridge might be the best place to go for convenience, but the oldman isn't too crazy fun for the first part of the season, but would be good for beginners. Cardston has a great little river and a good campground right at the finish point! so that sounds alot better, but the only thing I see that could be troublesome would be the distance. But I would go to any of it. No matter where it is!
But to be honest I think Cardston would be alot of fun! So I think thats where my vote is.
Anywhere works for me if i can bum a ride. (will trade in the traditional currency of beer or pop if you prefer)
I can't wait, the trailer looks sick!
Just signed onto the club last week, and I think a cardston paddle would be pretty sweet. When you say the later part of the month, are we talking about the 19th (saturday) or the 26th (also a saturday), sometime around then? Both those days are good for me, but I think I'd prefer the 26th just so that it's after exams.
I was thinking the weekend of the 26th. If the rivers are flowing we can do it in Cardston.
If not, should we shoot for a Friday evening Old Man paddle in Lethbridge and party there?
Just checked out 'The Source' trailer... it looks awesome. If we decide on Cardston, there is a good chance we could get the large kitchen at Kimball Park for the after-paddle spread. This would also give us some big white walls for projection along with electricity.
I like the movie and BBQ idea :)
I am interested as well. I am not yet a member of the club and would like to know the best way to join?
I was also wondering if there were any pool sessions this month? Being a beginner I would not mind having the chance to roll in the pool a few times before heading to the river.
Thanks for the input.
Weekend of the 26th - I'm in. I have a projector I could bring if need be.
someone want to give me janson's number? i lost it for the nth time this year.

Best way to join the club is to hit the pool sessions Wed at 8:30pm at the UofL pool.
You can also call the president at 894-7773.
There should be the AGM coming up soon. One option there is to hold a rather informal one an hour or so before the BBQ.
We have a small apartment we are renting in Lethbridge right now. I will put that up as an option. There is a big back yard for a BBQ.
hey ya'll if you're looking for a place to have a BBQ we could have it at my place. Except, my BBQ was destroyed in a windstorm last winter, so we would need to bring one out. It might also be and good time to bring the boats over from the U.

I know that postponing the Season Kick-off party would keep some of the Lethbridge students from being able to attend, but I think we would get more people out if we waited for warmer weather and flowing water. My vote would be for mid-May... perhaps the weekend of the 9th or 16th???
Yep - bad weather and no water means no BBQ and no paddle.
I'll let Nathan or another plan the May day.
