With the lower St. Mary flowing and 34C forecast, we propose a family float through Box Canyon for Monday.
This would be similar to last year's trip as we'll bring our raft and kids and we'd have room for a few others in the raft, and others could kayak or canoe.
Nathan - are you and your kids interested in joining us?
This is a chance to bring your non-kayaker spouse/partner along on one of our favorite local runs.
If you haven't yet enjoyed the lower St. Mary, it's a II+ run with a couple of III's and then Run-no-run (III+) and Hairpin (IV). All rapids are easy to portage (the kids will walk around the 2 bigger rapids). With flow of 45 cms, rapids will be smaller but there should be good play spots and surf, and warm water.
Reply on the blog and give us a call to reserve space on the raft.

ugg. I'm home alone with the kid. He's 20mo, so I'm not sure if he's ready for this. How long on water?
Mark,
I'm guessing it'd be too much for a 20 mo. old - perhaps 4 hours on the water - ??

Mark... we are contemplating taking Brennan (24 mths) on the float. We would love to have you along, and we could set something up for shade. Stew and I are hoping for Thursday or Friday.
Mark,
As Nathan indicated, we're anticipating a trip and it looks like Thurs. should be ideal. Di reminded me that we took Joe down the Elk Canyon when he was 12 mos. (not sure I'd recommend that since we ran Horizon Line).
I think Irene will join us in the raft and we'd still have room for more. Seems like various folks might be coming along in kayaks and it should make for an excellent afternoon/evening.

Thanks again for the Saturday trip, Stew. The kids had a great time as did I.
hello. i am new to lethbridge and while i am a novice canoe-er my partner is excellent. we would like to plan some trips, one being from st mary dam into lethbridge. is this a one day trip or overnight? any river issues we should know about. really appreciate your help and experience with lethbridge area.
From the Dam to Lethbridge is about 80km. There are 2 big features about 10-12 km downstream of the dam. One is called RUN-NO-RUN (a class III with big waves, and large rocks in the middle) and the other is HAIRPIN (a class IV - about a 5-10 foot river wide drop. A big ugly sticky hole above it and 2 river wide ledges below). Then another class III called surprise rapids (mostly big waves) about another 30 km downsteam.
