Popson Wave
With the return of hot weather, and the unfortunate shut-back of the Lower St. Mary, Di and I sought an alternate paddle this evening. We headed down to the Popson Wave that's just upstream from the Boat Launch at Popson Park (westside, south on Univ. Dr. and straight through the traffic circle near Paradise Canyon and then left turn down to the river).
It was worth the trip - a grade I+/II boulder ledge with a couple of surfable spots and an easy paddle back up. It's right in town, the water's warm and it's almost whitewater.
We'd recommend it to anyone wanting to cool off and wanting to work on surfing and boat control. We especially recommend it for newer paddlers.
