OKAY!!! I am still in Cardston for a week or more, but Lower St. Mary's is flowing and I would love to paddle it everyday if I could, and because it is flowing we NEED to go and hit it up. Its about a 3 hr. paddle and only about 30 minutes away from Lethbridge. SO call me!!! to let me kow who is in! you only need yourself if you can drive and meet near the put-in. The best part is that we can do evening paddles so people can work and paddle in the evening! so we can meet near the put-in around 5 or 6. the meeting point is the intersection of Township Rd 52 and and Range Rd 231 just Southwest of magrath and just passed the Windmills. This intersection has a fenced in area with a bunch of propane tanks inside of it! SO CALL ME!!!

So what I am trying to say is I am going today...tomorrow...the next day... and the the day after next... etc. But I need YOU to come so we can have a shuttle and have heaps of fun. This river has a couple Class IV sections, BUT they are really easy to walk around.

I am in for an evening paddle... especially if it is raining (rain might even make a morning paddle possible).

We'll be in for some boating.

I posted a map of the lower St. Mary run with rapids and access roads in the ORCKA wiki.

Di, Hubert and I are heading out for a Canada Day mid-day surf session on the short, Rain-wave run. We'll be at the walk-down put-in by the propane tanks at about 10ish and will be taking out at the A-frame.

Surf's up.

Really nice level through the Rain Wave run today ... and some thunder, lightning and rain seemed appropriate. Heavy rain through the major irrigation zone reduce water demand and extend the flows on the lower St. Mary.

Enjoy,

Stew

We'll miss out on the Wed. run but look forward to a family float Thurs. afternoon if weather's good.

With today's rain, the lower St. Mary should run for a while.

I posted a few photos that Hubert took of today's trip, on the wiki (and that photo of Jeff runing Lundbreck is outstanding!)

Happy Canada Day to all,

Stew & Di

We ran the final reach of the St. Mary today (into the Oldman) with a work trip - there's lots of water coming down and it was too high for our intended sampling.

We'd be in for a run on Saturday. Should be ideal for the delayed family float - Nathan?

The Family Flotilla is on!

Looks like Nathan + 4 and Stew + 2 in the raft, and Matt and Di as escort boats. Might also be an inflatable K1.

Mark - we'd have room for you and the little one, if you're interested.

Anyone else is welcome to join the fleet for the lower St. Mary run.

Costco at 10 am or put-in (A-frame drive down below the normal walk-down putin) at 11.

18 of us on the Lower St. Mary today - 12 with the family float + 6 kayakers from the Pass (Chuck Lee and co.). Excellent flow and warm, sunny weather but windy at times. We'll post a few pic's on the wiki.

Lower St. Mary should be running for a few more days - enjoy!

With continuing flows on the Lower St Mary, we were thinking of a short, Rain-wave surf run Monday late afternoon or evening.
